This year the focus is on the classes of '98, '88, '78, '68, '58, '48, and '38, although Aggies can hold a reunion during any year. Alumni interested in sponsoring a class reunion may contact Ermelinda Quintela, at 866.678.2586.
YOU’VE BEEN "MUGGED"
This program is for incoming freshmen moving into the dorms during “Move In” week. Working with the Registrar’s Office, the Alumni Association compiles a list of all incoming freshmen and greets them at the dorms with a “We Believe In You” coffee mug filled with pencils and other goodies with a tag that says, “You’ve Been Mugged by the Alumni Association. Welcome to NMSU.”
CHILL OUT BOXES
This program is targeted at seniors who are taking their finals. The “Chill Out” Box is intended to make the finals week a little bit easier by giving the student a box full of little snacks and other goodies they can munch on while they study. The “Chill Out” Box has a mug with coffee or cocoa, ramen noodles, popcorn, candies, and other freebies. Parents purchase this gift by calling the Alumni Association or by returning the order form mailed to them. Boxes cost $15.
BIRTHDAY CAKE PROGRAM
This program gives parents who live out of town a chance to wish their Aggie son or daughter a happy birthday with a cake and card. Parents purchase a cake using the order form we send them or by calling in or faxing their order to the Alumni Association. Detailed flyer. (pdf file)
The student receives a cake and birthday card. A picture is taken of the student with the cake and that picture is put into a thank you card and sent back to the parent. Cakes start at $18.
Please fill out our online form and make an Aggie very happy.
GRAD FAIR
Grad Fair is offered twice a year, prior to Spring and Fall commencements. Graduating seniors are encouraged to stop by the Corbett Center Student Union where a variety of booths are set up with the information that students need as they prepare to graduate. The Alumni Association, Registrar’s Office, Bookstore, Graduate School, and the official ring company are there to answer any questions.
OUTSTANDING SENIOR BANQUET
The Outstanding Senior Banquet honors the top graduates of the university’s colleges who are picked by the respective deans. The banquet is held the Friday evening prior to Commencement.
OFFICIAL RING CEREMONY
This ceremony is conducted at the Alumni Association office for those who have purchased the official ring of NMSU. Students meeting the criteria for purchasing the ring are contacted by the Association to determine if they wish to attend this ceremony.
All who make reservations are offered finger foods and beverages and receive their rings in style. The rings are tied to chile ristras and then presented to each student by the Executive Director.
This ceremony is free of charge.
COMMENCEMENT
Commencement exercises are held twice a year at the end of each semester. Graduates walk across the stage to be recognized for completing their studies. As they exit, they receive an NMSU Alumni lapel pin attached to a card containing information about the Alumni Association from a member of the Executive Council.
PARENT’S WEEKEND/PARENT’S ASSOCIATION
Parents’ weekend is set up as a tailgate during the football season. Parents of incoming freshmen are contacted and encouraged to come. They are educated on healthy eating habits that new students often neglect. An alumnus of the university usually teaches the classes. The Parents Association is an organization of current students’ parents. Although it has lain dormant for some time, this Association should be up and running soon.
PRESIDENTIAL AMBASSADORS
This group of students aids the Director of Presidential Events with events, such as the Outstanding Seniors Banquet, and they also double as liaisons between the president’s office and other departments around campus. They make a presence at each event and, while they do not help organize events, they learn teamwork and have and build their leadership skills. Students interested in becoming ambassadors may contact Felicia McCracken, Recruitment Coordinator.

This program is designed to help students with questions about majors, careers, and even where to live. Alumni interested in sharing information will be put into a database and students can contact them with their questions. When you were in school, how many times did you wish you had someone to answer your questions about a career or about other areas of the country? Many NMSU students have never been out of the state so they have no idea what it might be like in New Jersey. If you would like to be listed, please send your name, address, and vocation to the Alumni office.
